Over time you’ll create lead magnets for all of them, but it’s clear that whatever lead magnet you create, the approach would be very different for someone who is just learning about your brand and what you have to offer versus someone that’s comparison shopping between you and a competitor.

Give Them a Reason to Act

The next step is to give your users a compelling reason to want to download your lead magnet in the first place. Just popping it up on the screen if they’re visiting for the first time is a surefire way to send them scrambling for that little X in the corner.

We tend to spend an inordinate amount of time fretting over what kind of lead magnet we can create. Should it be video or a PDF? How involved should it be? Remember, the simplest lead magnets with a clearly tend to perform the best, so take the time to add detailed knowledge about a specific topic. For example, looking at our prior title suggestion, we could make it even better by gearing it exclusively toward Wordpress sites and a specific subset of the people we’re targeting, like restaurant owners.

The important thing is that you develop a schedule and a system to create great lead magnets quickly, and then create the accompanying landing pages to go with them.
